integrated land use and urban transportation planning

Urban transportation planning must consider land use planning and growth patterns of cities. Integrated transport master plans should be developed considering future growth and expansion. Short, medium, and long term transportation plan need to be developed and implemented.

Use of new technology

Fuel-efficient, electric and hybrid cars that are emerging due to advances in vehicle technology. These can make greater contribution to lessening the problems associated with air pollution and fossil fuel use.

Public transportation system

Once the various elements of urban transportation infrastructure are developed based on the integrated urban transportation plan, the public transportation services should be provided to urban population including the marginalized urban poor. There could be various forms of interconnected public transportation such as bus, LRT, BRT, subway and metro systems, etc. depending on size and economy of the city. Public transportation should be planned to be safe, secure, reliable, frequent, convenient, affordable, clean, comfortable and efficient.

Energy consumption and emissions

Governments around the world are adopting different strategies to reduce energy consumption and emissions from transport operations. These include the use of alternate fuels, greater use of higher quality and efficient public transportation systems, use of innovative technology and efficient vehicle design, reducing trips or vehicle-kilometer traveled, and several forms of travel

                What is Sustainable Transport?

Sustainable Transport is sometimes known as Green Transport and it is any form of transport that does not use or rely on dwindling natural resources. Instead it relies on renewable or regenerated energy rather than fossil fuels that have a finite life expectancy. For this reason it is said to have a low or a negative effect on the environment since it makes use of energy sources that are sustainable. Transport is very important Because transportation serves to facilitate trade, exchange and tourism. Without effective transport, most areas will be isolated. Transportation often has problems related to urban areas, and occurs when the transport system is unable to meet the various requirements of urban mobility. Choices on public transit options are choices about city future. Will there be high levels of air pollution? Will services be affordable to all? The type of public transit system will have a big impact on the answer to these questions. Tourism sector is one of the main important sectors of the economy. Many countries take advantage of covering the budget deficit with the help of profits coming from tourism. That is why tourism sometimes is called a factory without chimney. As the matter of fact it is difficult to think of tourism sector without transportation. Transportation is the main mean to carry passengers, that is, the tourists to the actual site where tourism services are performed. Supply chain management (SCM), the management of the flow of goods and services, involves the movement and storage of raw materials, of work-in-process inventory, and of finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption. Supply Chain Strategies are the critical backbone to Business Organizations today. Very simply stated, when a product is introduced in the market and advertised, the entire market in the country and all the sales counters need to have the product where the customer can buy and take delivery. In line with the explanation above, Trisakti School of Transportation Management is committed to provide a forum for relevant research and innovations that contribute to competitiveness, efficiency, convenience, safety and well-being
